Quills Coffee Tweets (changes & improvements)

Hello Friends! Just wanted to give you a heads-up that beginning August 1st of this 12th year of the 2000s, we will be downsizing our twitter accounts and consolidating all tweet-tweeting awesomeness into our one informative, engrossing, bone-tickling Quills Coffee account. Takin' it back to the basics y'all.

While we love the unique styles and personalities of each of our stores, we think we can better express the unified Quills brand -and better give you the news you're anticipating- if we channel it all through one account. And those of you loyally tied to one specific community and one specific Quills store, do not fear. We will certainly still be sending particular store-specific messages through this account, indicating as is necessary and appropriate.

We'll give you time to say goodbye though. As it is currently July 17th, you have exactly two weeks to make sure you are following us at @QuillsCoffee . We'll use the additional store accounts until then- mostly to keep reminding you of this announcement.

And if you aren't following us, well hurry up already! @QuillsCoffee

Changes in Hours

There are lots of exciting things happening at Quills this summer including expanded efforts in roasting, the upcoming launch of our webstore, and mounting opportunities to bring our coffee to you through more and more retail outlets. To make sure we give proper attention to these pursuits while still providing the quality and service we hope our friends and fans expect, we are making a few changes to our store hours with the next few months in view. We believe this will only increase the opportunities we have to serve all of Louisville (and beyond) the best we possibly can.

These changes are listed by store location below. UofL's summer hours have already been enacted. New Albany and Baxter locations will begin the new schedule this coming Monday- June 9th. Thanks so much for your continued support, patronage and friendship!

Quills and Original Makers Club

A couple of days ago, Quills got to play at the lifestyle of the photographed. Both old and new school Quillsians journeyed to an idyllic home and farm in Anchorage, KY and set up a little coffee party for the next edition of Original Makers Club. Our smiles are natural (mostly). We had such a great time with the guys from OMC and even got to pick a few bags full of peaches when we were done.

Make sure to pick up the next issue of Original Makers Club Louisville for the real deal but in the meantime, here's a few iphone photos we snapped:

Reflecting on Coffee Fest

I asked Houston and Jamie to record some reflections after their trip to Coffee Fest  a couple of weeks ago. I asked Kent too but I think that guy would rather tell you in person... after first hearing about your day.  Read on for some stories and pics from this memorable trip to Chicago.

Jamie says...
We had loads of fun with our "vegan tourism"  trying to find the best Seitan chicken wings in Chicago. Kent and I hobnobbed with other coffee people until we were hoarse, and then we went out to coffee parties and kept on hobnobbing. It was heartening to meet hundreds of people who are just as passionate about good coffee as we are. We were really searching for new ideas and new products to bring back to our customers. There is a coffee shop in Chicago themed after 80's video games with a real Delorian above the bathrooms. Kent and Houston sat down on a couch there and played on an original Nintendo (don't know which game).  We were all real proud of Kenny (Smith-from Sunergos) as he represented Kentucky by winning second place against very intimidating west coast competition.

Houston says...
Well, let's see.. the first day for me was spent looking around the city for good places to eat and grossly overpriced clothing. Luckily, I didn't leave with any new clothes, but man- good food was had. Day two: No pouring in the competition for me, but cheering Jamie on was just as fun. Afterwards we perused the convention floor and headed out with two goals: Eat some good (vegan) food and over-caffeinate ourselves. Both missions were a success. Hanging out at Wormhole Coffee was a blast: Playing contra with Kent and taking in all of the wonderful video game-themed artwork. Then we sat in the shade with some more wonderful coffee at Caffe Streets. Later that day we attended a little gathering for Coffee Kids at Counter Culture's training facility, and grabbed some Chicago style deep dish pizza that night. Day three: We enjoyed the finals of the competition and departed for home shortly after.

Quills missed these guys and are so proud of their awesome work there in Chicago. Looking forward to our next adventure.

Quills Loves Louisville Music

She's served you coffee. She's served you the charmingest of smiles. She's about to serve you some transcendental tunes.

She is Quills star Sarah Welder and her symphonious accomplices are Louisville's own - CABIN

And you won't believe your luck but this week- you have not one, but TWO chances to see them live!

Wednesday, June 13th, they'll grace the stage with a young man who LouisvilleMusicNews called "a golden treasure"  Justin Lewis.

Thursday, June 14th, they'll be preceded by the pleasantly jarring, cinematic, instrumental sounds of INTERSTATES

Both shows are at Uncle Slaytons and begin at 8pm.

AND.... You can buy your tickets from any Quills location for only $10 (They're $12 at the door)!!!! Now I'll give you a few minutes to peel yourself off the ceiling and we'll see you here pickin' up your tix!

Quills Road Trip - Coffee Fest

Quills is excited to be a part of Coffee Fest 2012!

Coffee Fest hosted their first big event in Seattle in 1992. They now combine education, training, workshops - and some healthy competition- in three top-performing trade shows annually positioned in New York, Chicago and Seattle.  And this week, June 8-10, Quills will head up to Chicago to proudly represent Louisville coffee!!

Our own Baxter baristas --Houston Miller (looks like Ashton Kutcher) and James Tooill (some say he looks like Jesus; some say Eddie Vedder; Luke says John Lennon c. 1968)-- have been accepted to compete in the latte art competition.

  {photo left: a little practice pouring going down}

Additionally - our new Tech, Kent Plenge (the tall, tatted and uber-friendly one), will head up with the crew for a few sessions of training on all things tech-related.

As we grow, Quills is excited to expand and deepen connections with the broader coffee community, and events like Coffee Fest give us an opportunity to do that. Baristas, roasters, techs, shop owners and managers and all-around coffee geeks from all over the world gather at these events to share new insights and techniques, discuss industry trends, and to engage in some friendly competition. We're sure that our team will learn much from being there, and hope that we might have a small part to contribute to ongoing growth in this industry during a very exciting time for coffee.

Be sure to follow @QuillsCoffee on Twitter this weekend for updates on how our baristas are doing!
